Background
One of our clients required ongoing nursing support, including intravenous (IV) fluids, administration of antibiotics, and regular laboratory investigations. Traditionally, this would have required an extended hospital stay, leading to increased costs and inconvenience for the client and family.
The Challenge
The client wanted to continue receiving professional medical care while remaining in the comfort of his own home. However, he still needed consistent clinical support, monitoring, and assistance with laboratory processes such as blood and urine sample collection.
Our Intervention
Our team provided personalised nursing care directly in the client’s home. This included:
* Administering IV fluids and prescribed antibiotics safely and professionally at home.
* Supporting with blood and urine sample collection when required.
* Transporting samples to the laboratory for testing.
* Collecting and returning laboratory results promptly to support ongoing treatment and medical reviews.
* Maintaining communication with the client and ensuring continuity of care throughout the treatment period.
The Outcome
Through our home-based nursing support, the client was able to:
* Avoid prolonged hospital admission.
* Reduce the financial burden associated with hospital stays and discharge-related costs.
* Receive treatment in a familiar and comfortable environment.
* Experience less stress and disruption to daily life.
* Access timely investigations and treatment without the inconvenience of repeated hospital visits.
Impact
This intervention demonstrated how flexible, community-based care can improve a client’s quality of life while also reducing unnecessary healthcare costs. By bringing nursing services directly into the home, we were able to provide safe, efficient, and compassionate care tailored to the client’s needs.
