Companion Care

What Is Companion Care?

Companion care means regular, friendly visits from a dedicated carer who builds a real relationship with your loved one. At Kome Care, our companions are carefully matched to each person, so they share interests, enjoy good conversation, and lend a practical hand alongside genuine human company. Studies show loneliness is as damaging to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, which makes companion care a medically important service rather than a luxury.

If You Live Further Away

A lot of families arrange companionship because they simply cannot visit as often as they would like. Work, children, distance or other responsibilities get in the way, and the guilt that comes with that is its own weight.

Companion care does not replace family, and we would not pretend otherwise. What it does is provide regular company and practical support in between your visits, so the gaps are shorter and someone reliable is checking in. Where it is appropriate and everyone has agreed to it, families can also receive updates from the care team.

How We Match Companions to Clients

A companionship relationship only works when there is real human connection. Before making any match, we take time to understand each client's background, life history, personality, interests, and way of communicating. We look for shared enthusiasms, compatible temperaments, and the right personal chemistry, because the aim is not simply a competent carer but a relationship that both the client and the companion look forward to.

For clients with dementia, we apply specialist matching criteria. Our companions are trained in dementia communication techniques such as validation therapy and life story work, so visits stay stimulating and emotionally positive even as cognitive needs change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Companion care includes regular social visits, conversation and reminiscence, shared activities and hobbies, accompanying to appointments, help with correspondence, and light practical support. It is much more than just a visit. It is a genuine relationship.
Yes. Many of our clients receive visits that include both personal care support and meaningful companionship time. Our carers are skilled at providing both naturally within a single visit.
We can arrange companion care visits from once a week to daily, depending on your preferences and needs. Regular scheduling helps build the relationship between client and carer.
Our carers are trained to gently engage people who may be withdrawn or low in confidence. Through consistent, patient relationship-building, most clients become increasingly comfortable and engaged over time.
